LEGISLATION
The Portuguese Republic Intelligence System (SIRP) is regulated under Law No. 30/84, of 5 September, as modified by Organic Law No. 4/2004, of 6 November – SIRP Framework Law, and Law No. 9/2007 of 19 February.
The following services have the mission to produce the intelligence necessary to safeguard national independence and ensure internal security, under the Constitution and the Law:
- · Defence Strategic Intelligence Service (SIED) is the agency in charge of producing intelligence that may contribute to safeguard national independence, national interests and the external security of the Portuguese State.
- · Security Intelligence Service (SIS) is the agency in charge of producing intelligence that may contribute to safeguard internal security and pre-empt sabotage, terrorism, espionage and any such acts that, given their nature, may alter of destroy the Rule of Law as established by the Constitution.
